Abstract

The chapter analyzes the formation of three important centers of humanistic culture in the countries of the Czech Crown in the years 1526-1620. In Prague the activity of the humanistic circle was connected with the university, important publishing houses of the burghers, the ruler's court and later also with the Jesuits.

In Moravia humanism found the right conditions for its development gradually in two centers. Almost all humanitarians of Olomouc were the canons of the chapter and were thus directly connected with the Episcopal Court.

Another Moravian Educational Center was associated with the work of the Brotherhood Unity Press in Ivančice, the residence of Jan Blahoslaus, elected in 1557 by Bishop. An important role in the development of European humanism also played a role in Silesian Wroclaw and its Bishop's Court in connection with the Krakow University.
