Abstract

The court ceremony was one of the instrument to promote the power and privileges of the sovereign. In the case of the Central European Habsburgs, it is possible to look for models at the court of the Burgundy dukes of the Valois dynasty and the Spanish Habsburgs.

From them, Ferdinand I (1503-1564) and his successors took over a system of state administration and the system of privacy protection for the sovereign. An important role was played the sakralization of the sovereign too.
