Abstract
The article reassesses the available archaeological and textual evidence originated from or connected with Heliopolis, in the attempt at clarifying its role in the evolution of the solar cult in the Third Millennium BC. Egypt.
It shows that the key of the discussion has to be searched for in the study of the relationship between Atum and Re.
