Abstract
A czech translation of an opus of well-known Constance professor of Anglistics and Theory of literature. In the historical as well as systematical perspective he demonstrates two key categories which constitute literature.
There is an unspoken question, whether the fictive and the imaginary share an essence of an anthropological constant, thanks to which the basic human need of imagination could be understood. Iser understands literature as a mirror, as a human tool of self-transcendence and knowledge of the world.
