The pluricultural situation of Bohemia was in the period between 1900 and 1939 articulated i.a. by intellectuals who mediated in diverse constellations between linguistically, nationally, religiously, socially, politically and aesthetically different cultural complexes as translators, organizers and publicists. This article reflects the possibilities of a conceptual apprehension of this mediation practice between Czech and German culture - with reference to the bridge metaphors in which such mediation is often named, as well as with regard to today's theoretical debate and contemporary utterances by Otokar Fischer, Otto Pick, Max Brod and Rudolf Fuchs.
