Abstract

Presented is a case report of a 60-year-old male diagnosed with malaria and rickettsiosis in whom decisions concerning both the definitive diagnosis and adequate therapy were difficult to make. The authors point out to practical difficulties in the diagnosis and treat - ment of travelers, with a special focus on the Republic of South Africa.

They briefly discuss malaria, rickettsiosis and Q fever as well as the options for diagnosis and treatment.
