The aim of this paper is to study and describe the demographic behavior (birth intervals in connection with child mortality, adjusted for other family characteristics) for different selected localities in the Czech lands during the 18th century. This is the period before the onset of fertility transition.

Moreover, it is the same time period as was studied by other researches (e.g. Knodel 1968, 1978 for Germany).

In our study, population of one of the selected localities was formed of higher share of German inhabitants. This was the motivation for comparison of the observed behavior of this location to the similar ones located in Germany (e.g. based on the results published by Knodel 1968, 1978, and others).
