Abstract

In this chapter, we assess age-at-death for non-adult and adult skeletons from the cemetery of the 2nd church in Pohansko, Czech Republic, excavated between 2008 and 2012. This chapter is divided into two parts.

The first part describes age-at-death estimates for non-adult individuals, and the second describes age-at-death estimates for adult individuals. Both parts briefly summarize the biological background for aging and senescence changes as well as techniques for age-at-death estimation in bioarchaeological practice.

The part related to non-adult individuals presents dental and skeletal age-at-death together with the resulting age-at-death estimation. We also briefly discuss the agreement between dental age-at-death techniques and age-at-death estimated by long bone diaphyses in non-adult individuals.

The part related to adult individuals presents the resulting age-at-death estimates, but it also assesses the agreement between techniques used for age-at-death estimation in skeletal records. used in other assessments in this volume.
