The assessment of sex for adult individuals from the Pohansko second church cemetery

Abstract

In this chapter, we provide sex assessments for adult individuals from the 2nd church in Pohansko (Břeclav), a site that was excavated between 2008 and 2012. In the first part of this chapter, we review sex assessment techniques and previous attempts to assess sex in Great Moravian Early Medieval samples.

In the results section, we summarize sex assessment using pelvic morphology and pelvic measurements and describe newly developed secondary discriminant functions derived for the Pohansko individuals from a diverse set of cranial and postcranial features. Finally, we present the resulting sex assessment for each adult individual studied, which is used in later analysis in this volume.
