Abstract

The three novels, selected from Karel Sabina's extensive and varied work, present the author's creative process and also point to his influence on the formation of czech literature in its thematic and genre diversity. The book opens the novel Ervín (1836, 1845), a model prose of czech romanticism.

Vesničané (1847) then represent a one of first texts of czech literary realism. In the novel Oživené hroby (1870) autor critically and self-critically confronted the views and ideals of participants in the revolutionary events of the 40s, and using the scoring point to evaluate the results of the efforts and actions of his generation.
