Abstract

Popular science article intermediates one of the earliest contacts of the inhabitants of the Czech lands with Spanish America (the continental part named Venezuela) in the decade of the 20th-30th of the 16th century. The intermediated role concerned to the banker's family Welser from Augsburg with entreprenuerial relations to the mines of Joachimsthal and to the king of Spain Charles I (Emperor Charles V).

The article is based on the documents from the archives in Dresden and Sevilla and the parish registers of Joachimsthal, as wel as the secundary lterature.
