Contact dermatitis after contact with hops

Publication |
2018

Abstract

The action of external pollutants on the skin produces non-infectious inflammation of the skin, which is called contact dermatitis. Pollutants can be a variety of substances, including plants.

The effects of different parts of the plants on the skin can be irritating (toxic) when there is simple irritation. This effect can also increase sensitivity of the skin to sunlight (photodynamic effect).

However, the plant can also sensitize the skin, resulting in contact allergy. Contact dermatitis in general can cause different parts of plants with the substances contained therein (plant juices, plant hair, onions, roots and tubers, shrubs and trees).
