Genital herpes in women

Abstract

Authors summarize recent opinions on epidemiology, symptoms and treatment of genital herpes. Recently incidence of the primary manifestations of infection in the genital area in young women is increasing.

The causative agent is paradoxically more likely to herpes simplex virus type I, which is classically find in labial herpes. Dangerous is the occurrence of genital herpes during pregnancy, when is possibility of vertical transmission and infection of the newborn with a severe course.

Caesarean section and antiviral prophylaxis can reduce this risk to a minimum. In conclusion, the authors attach a short case report of repeated incorrect diagnosis of primary genital herpes in young women.
