Abstract

The article deals with the Czechoslovak Republic in the interwar period. It asks about the reasons of the stability of democracy as well as about many contradictions which became typical for the republic.

It is part of a broader discussion about democracy in central Europe in the interwar period which was initiated by the journal "Vierteljahrshefte für Zeitgeschichte".
