Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in the treatment of depressive disorder

Publication |
2016

Abstract

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a promising non-pharmacological, neuromodulatory intervention for treating depressive disorder. It delivers low intensity, direct current to cortical areas facilitating or inhibiting spontaneous neuronal activity.

The authors briefly recapitulated potential mechanism of action in the treatment of depressive disorder and reviewed results of clinical research of acute and continutation treatment with tDCS and commented future directions of research.
