Abstract

The authors evaluated the long-term effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in patients with anxiety disorders one year after the treatment in day care center. The sample consisted of 46 participants (response rate 53%), who underwent a seven-week program in day care center in 2014 and who were willing to cooperate further in the long-term follow-up.

Participants received some assessment tools by email in order to assess the severity of symptoms and the quality of their life after treatment. The results of this study show that the quality of life significantly improved after CBT (p < 0,05) and that the quality of life is average compared to population norms.

The only value which stays lower is mental health. Anxiety as well as depressive symptomatology is significantly lower compared to the scores before treatment in day care center by 41% in depressive symptoms and 53% in anxiety symptoms.

The average value of satisfaction with the current mental state reached 70%. Primarily regular aerobic exercise has positive effects on current state of health, which results in improvement of physical condition and reduction of anxiety.
