This study deals with the issue of prison tattoos from the perspective of prison tattoo artists. The aim of this text is to shed light on the organization and methods of tattooing in Czech male prisons.
The partial aim of this work is to reflect on the motives that lead prisoners to tattooing, something that is forbidden in the environment of Czech men's prisons. A tattoo itself may considerably complicate prison sentences in the sense of partial punishment after these activities are revealed.
The data and outputs presented in this study are based on a five-year ethnographic investigation of bodily modifications of the population sentenced to imprisonment in the Czech male prison system that was implemented between 2013 and 2017.
