Tattoos of old convicts: Reflection of the transformation of symbolism and the meaning of tattoos in Czech male prisons
Abstract
The presented study is one of the partial outputs of the five-year ethnographic research in the Czech male prison system, which the author realized. The study depicts the selection of a specific symbolism that was tattooed in male prisons prior to 1989 and to a certain extent compares it to contemporary practice.
Attention is also paid to tattoo techniques and tools.
