Ultra-high performance supercritical fluid chromatography (UHPSFC) is an advanced and modern version of supercritical fluid chromatography taking advantage of sub-2 micron particles and dedicated instrumentation. Inherent benefits, such as high speed, high efficiency, and versatility in method development have enabled UHPSFC to become an important technique in the field of separation sciences.
It is now a technique of first choice for chiral separations not only in research laboratories but also in the pharmaceutical industry. The coupling of UHPSFC with mass spectrometry (MS) further extends the method's applicability for the analysis of complex matrices.
UHPSFC-MS has already been demonstrated as a viable option and complementary technique to liquid chomatography-MS and gas chromatography-MS in many application fields, especially in bioanalysis, including therapeutic drug monitoring, determination of chiral compounds and their metabolites in biological fluids, doping control, and lipidomics. Other emerging application fields include food analysis and analysis of natural products.
