Abstract

Cholestasis is a disorder affecting secretion and outflow of bile, due to structural or biochemical abnormalities in the liver cells or bile ducts. One of the most serious causes of cholestatic hepatitis is biliary atresia, which can however have a much more positive prognosis if diagnosed early.
