Abstract
The aim of the paper is to present our experience with implantation of suburethral TVT and TVT-O tapes. From February 2003 to May 2013, 241 women underwent placement of a suburethral tape for stress urinary incontinence at our centres.
All the patients were operated on for the first time. In 68 of them with a mean age of 62 years, retropubic tape was used.
Transobturator tape was employed in 173 patients whose mean age was 57 years. Follow-up was performed at 6 and 36 months after the procedure.
Subjective complaints and the quality of life were rated using the VAS tool, and objective evaluation of the surgery effect was done by means of the Valsalva stress test. Patients with retropubic tape were continent in 100 % and 91 % at 6 and 36 months following the procedure, respectively.
Early complications were noted in 4.4 %. With transobturator tape, full continence was maintained in 100 % and 94 % of patients at 6 and 36 months, respectively.
Early complications were observed only in 1.7 % patients. The ten-year experience with the TVT and TVT-O methods is good.
According to the results, the efficacy of both surgical procedures is similar. Rates of early as well as late complications exhibit a slight difference in favour of TVT-O.
A serious haemorrhagic complication was encountered only once in the case of retropubic tape implantation.
