The clash between ideology and art in the Prague metro during the period of normalization

Abstract

The premise of the metro required formal restrictions on the artworks that were intended to embellish it. For many artists the formal restrictions did not constitute a limit, but because of the large budget that was set aside for this project they were able to create works that would not otherwise have been produced.
