Abstract

The esophageal atresia is one of the innate developmental defects of the gastrointestinal tract. Up to 50% are associated with other birth defects, most commonly heart, uropoetic, respiratory or skeletal abnormalities (2).

As an example, the VACTERL Association is used. The atresia of the esophagus is a congenital defect requiring an acute surgical treatment.

In the case presented, two congenital malformations were combined, and due to the patient's immaturity, definitive surgical performance was achieved within 2.5 months of life.
