Grade 9 Elementary Students' Conception of (School) Chemistry

Abstract

The paper brings results from a quantitative study based on an open-questions questionnaire given to grade 9 students at the end of school year 2016. The students were given four questions about their conception of chemistry, particular chemical topics, the topics they find the most interesting and the overall grade they would give to chemistry as a school subject.

The results suggest students' low conception of chemistry as a field and their rather negative attitudes towards the school subject.
