Abstract
Karel Daněk, M.D., CSc. was specialized in sports medicine. For most of his professional career he worked in Nové Město na Moravě.
He founded district department of sports medicine there. He published results of extensive epidemiologic studies on cardio-respiratory fitness.
He was enthusiastic propagator of healthy lifestyle, focused mainly on physical activity - gait and hiking or cross country skiing as the most favorable. In several books published in Olympia publishing house he proved uncommon knowledge of historical background of history in circulatory system recognition, history of walking (hiking) as the most accessible form of physical activity and in history of so called civilization diseases prevention.
