Abstract
In spite of the worldwide decreasing incidence of gastric cancer the number of esophagogastric junction and proximal third of stomach carcinomas has been gradually growing up. The reason of that is an increasing incidence of reflux esophagitis with Barrett's metaplasia and a successful eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection.
The aim of this work is to provide various views on definition of the esophagogastric junction and to give an overview of tumours classification schemes being used.
