Abstract

The task of this study is to add some new information to present knowledge about the flood of Plzeň in 1784. The text draws attention to the fact that up to now researchers used to exploit mainly one particular source about the flood: the Chronologische Geschichte der grossen Wasserfluthen des Elbstroms seit tausend und mehr Jahren by Ch.

G. Pötzsch.

The Chronicle refers only to newspaper reports of the time which have been published by L. Hübner.

The second analysed source is the gubernial list of the rewards paid for the saving of human lives during the floods. These allow concluding that the flood hit the town of Plzeň quite severely.
