"Treat to target" in postmenopausal osteoporosis tratment or how long to treat osteoporosis

Abstract

Target and goal translate as the same. There is a difference between the target and goal in the treatment of chronic disease.

For example - the goal for diabetes mellitus treatment is the prevention of diabetic complications, the target is glycated haemoglobin (measurable value), the goal for hypercholesterolemia treatment is the prevention of cardiovascular events and the target is LDL cholesterol. The goal for osteoporosis treatment is fracture prevention.

A measurable target for treatment and risk stratification is missing. T-score value is a threshold for the diagnosis of osteoporosis and also an indication criterion for the initiation of treatment.

Even though most fractures occur in women with osteopenia.
