Abstract

Ultrasonography is a commonly used imaging technique for the evaluation of the thyroid gland. The thyroid nodules represent frequent and random findings.

Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) and cytology constitute the gold standard for the diagnostics. Ultrasonography provides an irreplaceable tool for assessing the nature of thyroid nodules improving the detection of malignancy and reducing unnecessary biopsies. recently a few recommendations and sonographic classifications have emerged.
