Imitations of Domestic Money in Context of the Sharing Economy

Abstract

The paper deals with alternative currencies, which are used in the sharing economy and analyses the possible criminal law implications of handling of these currencies. According to the Criminal Code, among other things, unauthorized domestic money substitutes handling is a crime.

However, these substitutes are not defined by law. Issuers and users of alternative currencies may potentially face prosecution related to the usage of the alternative currencies.

Therefore, the article focuses on defining of the domestic money substitutes and on the possible criminal consequences of the alternative currencies usage.
