Effects of drugs at the receptor level

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2014

Abstract

Nearly half the drugs that we use act by influencing receptors (activation or inhibition). This paper provides an overview of the types of targets, of their direct influence or action on the level below, at the level of the "second messenger", of the importance of drug-receptor interactions, organism- receptor interactions or organism-drug interactions (i.e. important pharmacokinetic indicators are listed).

Finally, the paper discusses the pharmacogenetic effects that significantly modify the resulting effect of the treatment. A specific feature of the article is its strong focus on the clinical implication of the presented facts.
