The study monitored four reference pathogens (Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia spp., thermotolerant Campylobacter spp. and Salmonella spp.) during one bathing season on five bathing sites in the Czech Republic. Salmonella was not detected in any sample, but three other microorganisms were found with different frequency in density of 0.45 to 4 (oocysts, cysts, CFU) in 1 litre.
Health risk calculated by QMRA method ranges from order 1/10 (one ill person from 10 exposed) to 2/100 for the sites assessed. Occurrence of faecal indicators (E. coli and intestinal enterococci) predicted occurrence of pathogens quite reliably
