Abstract

This article deals with the outbreaks from the Czech freshwater bathing sites. We used as information sources data provided by regional public health authorities, other specialists, general public (via phone and e-mail), internet questionnaire and scientific literature.

Only outbreaks of cercarial dermatitis were recognized (11 outbreaks totally, four from the years 1985 and 1986, seven since the year 2006). We registered 215 ill people in these outbreaks.

There were 40 records (some of them reported more than one case) between 2009 and 2012 in the internet questionnaire, used by general public for self-reporting disease caused by bathing in freshwaters. In this questionnaire cutaneous problems prevail (58%).

Eye and upper respiratory tract (20%) and gastrointestinal (15%) constrains were recorded less often.
