How Many Colours does the Socialism have? : Colour Scheme of Architecture in Socialist Czechoslovakia and its Cultural Representations

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2017

Abstract

The paper attempts to look at the cultural representations of the contemporary architecture in socialist Czechoslovakia and analyze the role played by the colours and materials of the new buildings. In seeking an answer to this question, it is necessary to go beyond the widespread used rhetorical figure of "gray years" and carefully differentiate specific phases and trends in the four decades of Czechoslovak architectural history between 1948 and 1989.
