Pathos of Distance as Bestowing Virtue: Deleuzian Interpretation

Publication at Faculty of Humanities |
2018

Abstract

Deleuze's interpretation of will to power, activity and reactivity serves as a springboard for an autonomous elaboration of the thesis about a connection between the bestowing virtue and the pathos of distance. Since the bestowing virtue may be identified with the affirmative will to power, pathos of distance is therefore the expression of its work in the human world.

The focus of the study is on the outline of multiple levels of the role of the pathos of distance. All the aspects of the pathos of distance are a consequence of the bestowing virtue and at the same time the very condition of its possibility.

Zarathustra's affirmation of life as well as the master morality or active type (Typus) are all the expressions of the bestowing virtue - and that can affect only from a distance.
