Landslides are related to damage on assets, health and forgone opportunities. Besides that, significant financial resources are allocated to landslide prevention, which is partly also subsidized from the state budget.
The talk introduces a concept of economic valuation which may serve for damage mapping, and may also contribute to decisionmaking whether in particular cases it is socially desirable to invest into the prevence, or to bear damages. Similar approaches are widely appied and accepted in e. g. anti-flood measure assessment, however, in case of landslides, more complex approaches are only emerging at present.
