Characterization of nanodomains formation in lipid membranes of giant unilamellar vesicles by MC-FRET approach

Abstract

Giant unilamelar vesicules of various lipid compositions (DOPC/Chol/POVPC/PGPC) were probed by FRET of different D-A pairs combined with Monte Carlo simulations to characterize lipid nanoscale (< 100 nm) heterogeneities. Four different models (antiregistered, registered, unregistered and shift-registered) of nanodomain formation were compared with measured kinetics, which leads us to conclusion of domains' coupling between both layers of bilayer membrane.
