Abstract
The article is a contribution to the discussion on the basis of ethical knowledge in social services. The article deals with the importance of ethics in social services.
It is based on the perspective that in social services, as well as demanding, responsible and interdisciplinary areas of professional activity aimed at improving the quality of human life, greater emphasis should be put on the formulation of ethical questions and the search for adequate answers. The paper is to conceive as a theoretical reasoning that deals with the essence of ethical reasoning and the search for answers in the structured outline of the fundamental ethical concepts - specific suggestions that look at the actual context.
Based on these theoretical suggestions, the article describes the possible contribution of an ethical approach to a particular application for social services. The introductory part deals with the essence of ethical reasoning in social services, followed by a part with selected sources of ethical examination.
The discussion focuses on a certain strain in the relationship between an employee in social services - a role-holder versus a private person and some aspects of ethical codes. The conclusion of the article reflects that the ethical dimension is part of every conscious, free and responsible human action, when we consider the assumptions, possibilities and consequences of our action.
It shows us that it is always possible to act differently. The theoretical background is drawn from the sources of research of historical personalities and contemporary experts.
