Adriena Šimotová's Work in the Context of International Visual Art

Publication at Faculty of Humanities |
2016

Abstract

The paper addressed the correlates of Adriena Šimotová's work in the international context of visual art, or visual culture in general, in the last six decades. It described and analysed the artist's links to distinguished personalities of the international art scene from the early stages of her career up to recently.

It provided an overview of Šimotová's individual international exhibitions and her participation in joint exhibitions abroad, again, from the early stages of her career up to recently. International awards received by the artist during her life were noted and so was the response to her art abroad.

The paper also covered Šimotová's teaching position in Salzburg and her internships in the Centre Pompidou studios in Paris. The consequences for her art of the political and cultural constraints in the period from the 1950s to the 1980s were analysed, including the restrictions on international cultural exchanges and the related lack of opportunities Šimotová had to present her art abroad.
