Abstrakt
The paper focuses on the architectural competition for the new building of the Vienna city hall. During the competition of 1868/1869, many French architects presented their projects and have been very successful: within four projects awarded first place, there are two of French provenance.
The paper analyses twelve awarded projects conserved in Viennese archives as well as circumstances of the competition, with special regard for relations with French milieu.
