Jealousy is explained by evolutionary psychology as a consequence of selective pressures, which aims to maximize their own reproductive capacity. The results of previous studies point to sex differences in the perception of jealousy.
Heterosexual men showed anxiety linked more to sexual infidelity (SI) and heterosexual women rather to emotional infidelity (EI). Studies of jealousy in homosexuals show that homosexual men tend to show greater levels of anxiety associated with EI and homosexual women with SI.
The type of jealousy (emotional / sexual) can therefore depend on the biological sex of the partner to whom we are jealous of, not the gender of the individual who is jealous. The aim of this work was to investigate the experience of jealousy through a questionnaire study from the perspective of heterosexual and homosexual individuals and to investigate whether the sexual / emotional jealousy differs depending on the gender of the respondent's partner.
