The paper consults the topic from three persepectives: the relationship between Karel Havlíček and the Sorabians, the image of Karel Havlíček in the Sorabian culture of the second half of the 19th century as an inspiration for Sorabian belles-lettres and journalism, and the use of references to Havlíček's contact with the Sorbs as a means of legitimising Czech sorabophiles in the period between the wars.
