Abstract
The paper describes Dr. Emil Holub's notebooks and diaries from Africa and the first notebook from his student years which served as a model for the others.
The paper consists of four sections, where the first describes diaries from Holub's first journey to Africa and one retrospective diary from his second journey to Africa. The second section describes Holub's notebooks from this journey.
The third section looks into other types of notebooks from Holub's second journey and the last section deals with Holub's very first notebook with scientific records.
