Abstract

The publication draws attention to the world of fashion and the dressing of the medieval and early modern society of the Czech lands through medieval illuminations and reports of the temporary commentators. The author studies the development of clothing in the range from the eleventh century to the beginning of the seventeenth century according to social groups, from the most powerful and the richest to the marginalized.

It is based on preserved medieval and early modern illuminations, different types of clothing of different social groups are introduced. Male and female clothes are described separately.

It describes the main parts of clothing, devotes to accessories, symbolism of colors and affects, as well as various fashion trends and frills.
