Abstract
This monograph introduces new international investment protection treaties, with particular emphasis on reforming investor-state dispute resolution (ISDS). All of this is embedded in wider and up-to-date issues of international investment law.
It can be said that international law now faces many challenges. Of course, this is true not only for international agreements on free trade and investment, but the problems are very clear in this particular area.
It has been shown that the current trend (over the last 20 years) to strengthen liberalism and multilateralism in international economic relations, including the promotion and protection of investment, has hit a relatively strong resistance in a number of countries, including the US (with President Trump's accession). It appears - in general terms - in a shift from multilateralism to bilateralism and from liberalism to protectionism.
