Pulmonary sequestration is a rare pulmonary malformation, in adults presenting with repetitive respiratory infections and hemoptysis. Intralobar sequestration is localized inside the normal pulmonary lobe, extralobar sequestration is found outside the lung.
Most frequent localization of the sequestration is the lower lobe of the left lung. In our paper, we present a case report of a female patient, who was diagnosed with pulmonary sequestration.
The illness manifested with respiratory infections and hemoptysis, the suspicion on sequestration was supported by CT-angiography, surgical resection was used as a treatment option. In the period of 2002-2017, we registered 12 cases of pulmonary sequestration in our department.
In our analysis women predominated. In 11 cases there was an intralobar sequestration, which is more common.
The localization in left lower pulmonary lobe dominated. Surgical resection was performed in 10 patients, we didn't register any serious complications.
