Self-concept of classmates with and without home education experience: A pilot study

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2018

Abstract

The study is the first research focused on issues of self-concept of children with home education experience. Self-concept is an important topic which has not received much attention in our country.

The aim of the study is to find out how those children perceive themselves and to compare their results with their classmates who have not had this specific experience. The first part of the paper is concentrated on theoretical background, self-concept and methodology of the research; the second one presents results of the pilot research.

One of the main benefits is that the study diverts attention from the perspective of the teacher (which was the dominating approach so far) to the perspective of the individuality of the student; the second one is that it verifies Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale as proper instrument for implementation similar focused researches.
