How the Persons with Visual Impairments Learnt Their Mother Tongue (Contribution to the History of Czech Language Teaching Methodology)

Abstract

Methodology of teaching students with visual impairments (hereafter SVI) does not have long tradition in the branches of science dealing with language teaching. The main reason is that teaching Czech to SVI was isolated from teaching in common schools.

This article is aimed to analyse special language teaching in the Czech lands from 1807, the year the first educational institute for SVI was established, to 1928, the year when the first syllabus for teaching mother tongue in common schools for SVI. In our analysis we use primary as well secondary sources and we compare them.
