Abstract

The paper describes the dramatic circumstances of a geographic excursion from Charles University to Soviet Central Asia in August 1968, when members of the excursion witnessed the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops into Czechoslovakia from the other side. The excursion-participant memories of feelings of despair and helplessness, thousands of miles from home, the reaction of colleagues and the Soviets, the behavior of the authorities and the experience on the Red Square are described in the unmistakable way by the former longtime Editor-in-Chief of Geografické rozhledy.
