Abstract
In the article the concept of alternative medicine has been elaborated in relation to the evidence-based scientific medicine. Alternative medicine is a diversity of therapeutic systems based on paradigms which are hardly compatible with the current state of the art of the modern science.
Alternative medicine is presented as a sociological phenomenon, reasons for use are highlighted and elucidated.
